Softboy Pillowman is super supportive of all gender identities!

Fun fact: This comic is based off of this meme:

Also, “poggers” is not a normal word in Softboy’s lexicon. Chris might be a modern youth, but he is still very confused by the word. He knows about and references this meme, though, because Lori sent it to him and it really resonated with him.

In case you forgot, the Butterfly Bear doesn’t have any binery because they’re genderfluid!

Happy Pride Month everybody! To celebrate, I’m gonna share art every
week in which members of Chrisville show off their beautiful and unique
identities. These characters are toys, so all sexualities depicted here
are more akin to romantic attraction.

Sergeant Block: aromantic asexual

Velvel Fox: gay

I hope you all enjoyed seeing this month’s art as much as I enjoyed drawing it!

the toys are trans-coded, and have backstories that are similar to
social transition.

Moth: agender demisexual

Madame Croc: sapphic transwoman

The Butterfly Bear: sapphic/queer and genderfluid

Note: Originally, Madame Croc was a lesbian. However, once she fell in love with the Butterfly Bear, whose gender can change from masc to femme to nonbinary day by day, she wanted to find a term that felt more inclusive to their relationship. Eventually, they settled on “sapphic” to emphasize Madame’s WLW attraction while also acknowledging attraction to other genders. The Butterfly Bear also identifies as sapphic when they’re a woman, but when they’re other genders, they simply use the word “queer.”

(I’m aware that there’s discourse around the word queer and if it’s been reclaimed or not. Personally, I believe it has been reclaimed and that it functions much better as an umbrella term for LGBT people. I do not want to fight about this, so if reading the word upsets you, take solace in the fact that as of now, I don’t have plans to use it in the dialogue of upcoming comics)

Looks like Softboy and Leo may not be Chrisville’s only power couple…

Fun fact: The ideas written on the chalkboard- Monarch, Peacock, and Very Hungry Final Form- are all types of butterfly! (At least, this is what a quick Google search told me in regards to the first two) However, this doesn’t mean the Butterfly Bear will stick with the butterfly theme. There’s a lot of time between now and Halloween, after all.

This comic is a bit of an apology to anyone who has been wondering why the antics of Softboy Pillowman have been so theater-focused as of late. This is because Softboy Pillowman and I are both huge theater nerds. Rest assured, we shall begin stories that specifically focus on LGBT-issues very soon!

Fun fact: Softboy actually started the free trial on his website earlier than this comic was published, so he’ll only have it up until a couple weeks from now. Still, he’s happy to have the possibility of expanding on it once he gets some more disposable toy income.

Here’s Part 3 of our surprisingly long journey towards giving Dirk a humanoid form. You can check out Part 1 herePart 2 here, and Part 4 here. I hope you all like constantly changing character, background, and prop sizes! (Let’s be honest. You’re here for the story. Not the art.)

Fun fact: In case you didn’t know, Softboy’s miraculous conjuration of a rainbow while saying the word “imagination” is a reference to a famous and oft-memed scene from Spongebob Squarepants. Dirk calls it stealing, but I call it an homage.

A little something special for Pride Month! Softboy Pillowman says gay rights :3

We’ll be back with regular comics next week, so stay tuned.

Fun fact: Each of the toys in this drawing are representing their specific identities. (Softboy and Madame Croc are trans, Leo is bi, and the Butterfly Bear is genderfluid). Even if you don’t see your specific pride colors here, rest assured that Softboy Pillowman and the rest of the toys in Chrisville support all parts of the LGBT community.

More tales from the Chrisville quarantine! Technically, all of the toys could be considered as “living together,” since they all live in Chris’s bedroom. However, Softboy and Leo live in the same cardboard box house, which is what Leo is referring to. Also, if you’re wondering how a plush lion toy has an armchair, Chris will occasionally ask his parents for dollhouse furniture so he doesn’t have to handmake every single part of Chrisville.

Fun facts: if you look closely, you can see that the “Funnies” strips are 1) a Loss reference (I’m so sorry) and 2) a rudimentary comic from the in-universe Grumpy Grey franchise (I believe I’ve mentioned it before; basically it’s this universe’s equivalent of Garfield)

Also, this was my most recent homework assignment for my Experimental Narratives class! We had to write and illustrate a 4-panel comic. I tried my best to do something that played with the format and boundaries of a 4-panel comic, and then realized I’d rather draw original fluff instead. (My classmates were largely underwhelmed. I am unappreciated in my time.)
