Thus begins the tale of the dusty bear. Admittedly, it’s not very spooky yet, just sad. But some say horror, like comedy, is tragedy plus time. After all, horror needs time in order to grow…

Fun facts: See if you can guess what television program is being watched and which picture book is being read in panel 3.

“This one’s actually a true story, actually…”

It’s spooky month, which means the blog will be taking a break from its regularly scheduled programming to bring you an appropriately spooky story. For those of you who are dying to know how Dirk’s current arc continues, shudder in fright, for that will have to wait until November.

Fun facts: As you can see, I decided to take the opportunity to throw some of my favorite things into this week’s comic. As Softboy mentions in panel 3, the residents of Chrisville have decided to dress up as characters from the video game Deltarune, which released its second chapter only a couple of weeks ago. Chris is dressed as Ralsei, Softboy is Lancer, Leo is Kris, Madame Croc is Susie, the Butterfly Bear is Noelle, and Dirk is the King. These costumes were largely distributed based on personality and not on character dynamics/relationships. The biggest exception to this, though, is how Madame and BB are clearly doing a couples costume.

The “ghost stories” that Leo told Softboy are, of course, the stories of the BBC television series Ghosts.

Finally, the “plant musical” that Dirk mentioned is Little Shop of Horrors. Its original musical ending is somber and dark, with character death and the end of the world depicted in song. Softboy, of course, much prefers the movie adaptation’s ending, where Seymour saves the day and marries the love of his life.

Happy Halloween, everybody! This year’s Halloween might be pretty different than usual, and a lot more scary in all the wrong ways, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t have fun and connect with our friends. No matter how you’re celebrating it, Softboy Pillowman and everybody in Chrisville wishes you all a lovely, spooky holiday.

Also, let’s give a warm welcome to Chris’s two best human friends, Lorrie and Makena! They won’t appear too frequently, since this blog is centered around the toy world in Chris’s bedroom, but they’re currently two of the most important people in Chris’s life. Lorrie is dressed as a pirate, and Makena is wearing an impressive homemade costume of Wolf from the cartoon Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts.

Fun facts: The two spooky movies that Chris mentions in the second panel are, as you can see from the posters, The Nightmare Before Christmas and the 1990′s version of The Witches.

Also, don’t worry. Chris likes all the “gross” candy his friends are giving him.

We’re back to Halloween planning with this week’s comic! Madame Croc can get a little flustered when it comes to her crush on the Butterfly Bear, but it won’t stop either of them from having a fun Halloween. This comic also features the return of Moth, and the debut of vis cryptid humming speech.

October is here, and Softboy has already prepared his Halloween costume. However, he may have started an interesting discussion on whether or not toys need dress codes.

Fun fact: This comic contains a sneaky little reference to a Softboy comic I drew in my notebook a while back and shared with a select group of friends. I couldn’t redraw the comic for the blog, though, since its humor was obviously 13+. I thought I might as well smuggle the fun bit into another story.
